1) The Gift of the Magi Questions and Quotes Worksheet
Students answer questions and analyze the significance of important events and quotes from the story. Answer keys are included as well as black and white and color versions of this activity.
2) Two Word Detective-Word Attack Vocabulary Activities for part I and 2 of the story
Your students act as vocabulary detectives and use their word attack skills to determine the meaning of each new word in context. First students read actual passages and dialogues from the story and use contextual clues to determine the meaning and part of speech of each new word. They must provide at least one synonym for each new word. Then they use a thesaurus or dictionary to check their comprehension and find more synonyms for each word. There are also bonus questions which relate to figurative language and word usage. Answer sheets are included.
3) The Gift of the Magi Crossword Puzzle
This is a challenging and comprehensive crossword puzzle related to this classic love story. I have included both the crossword weaver and PDF versions of this puzzle.
4) The Gift of the Magi Figurative Language worksheet
This is worksheet and workshop which introduces the figurative language in the short story, It focuses on the six most common kinds of figurative language used by the author; simile, metaphor, personification, hyperbole, synecdoche and allusion.
This worksheet can also be used as a quiz and has 20 passages and quotes from the story containing all of these different types of figurative language with accompanying answer sheets.
