This product is a literacy center bundle with 4 different center activities. They cover common core standards for 2nd, 3rd, and 4th grades, but can also be used for remediating or review for 5th grade students. I teach a 3rd - 5th resource classroom where review and spiraling of skills is imperative!
Literacy centers are a fun way for students to be engaged and active learning in meaningful activities, while providing uninterrupted teaching time for directed small group instruction or flexible groups during guided reading time.
This bundle includes 4 center activities. They include:
1. Sight Word Bingo is a great center or whole group activity. Although there are no anchor standards for sight words, sight word fluency is imperative to a student's success in reading.
2. Conversation Hearts is a writing activity based upon the all familiar traditional Valentine sweet candy. Students are to take 6-8 hearts replicated from the favorite candy and create a story from the messages on those hearts. The story can be fictional or nonfictional or even a poem. This activity covers all common core writing standards.
3. Love Letters is an activity where the students are to correct addresses on envelopes. Common Core standards L.2.2, L.3.2, and L.4.2 are covered in this activity.
4. Mail Call is an activity that reviews and reinforces the 4 major parts of speech: noun, verb, adjective, and adverb. Students are to identify the part of speech of the underlined word in the sentence and then place the card in the appropriately labeled envelope. This activity cores common core standards L.2.1, L.3.1, and L.4.1.
Thank you for your interest in these fun literacy centers based on a Valentine's theme.
