To establish or re-enforce class rules, discuss with the children what makes a happy and fun learning environment and then get them to make ‘a promise’ to adhere to the rules that keep the classroom happy, productive, friendly and safe.
They need to cut out, decorate and write their names on one of the hearts which is then cut out, laminated and displayed near the class rules. This allows the children to be accountable for their actions and even very young children who can only ‘draw their smiling face’ instead of writing their name can be reminded about the importance of rules in society and the promise that they have made to keep the classroom a fun place to be. I actually have a little ceremony in my Kindy where the children make their promise and put their beautifully decorated hearts up on the display themselves. I leave the hearts up all year. It works for me, I hope it does for you too!
