Love is in the air, for writing that is! First and second grade students will be motivated to write with these fun Valentine themed writing prompts, including topics like candy, love, kindness, friendship, Valentine's Day, and traditions! If you are looking for a fast, low prep, and super engaging way to inspire your students when it comes to writing this Valentine's Day, napkin books are the answer!

Simply staple the prompts inside of a napkin of your choice for instant books and an adorable keepsake. Also, families will cherish having sweet stories to save for years to come. I also love using these as a twist on traditional Valentine's Day cards.

Are you new to using napkin books in your classroom? They are seriously a game changer and one of my all time favorite ways to add excitement to writing!

What are napkin books?

Napkin books are exactly what they sound like! Simply find any themed or decorative napkin and staple paper inside. The napkin then becomes the cover of the book and turns a regular writing topic into a “fancy” published piece that students will beg to complete!

Students and teachers love them because:

❤️ It's brainstorming made easy! They can spend more time writing rather than struggling to come up with a topic.

❤️ Students get over the fear of a blank page. The lines, prompts, and pictures support students who are learning to write.

❤️ Spice up Work on Writing time! The same writing journal routine can get boring. Add color, fun, and creativity to your writing center or literacy block.

❤️ Students love to publish their work! When their work looks and feels special, they are more likely to put forth their best effort.

❤️ Students can be creative. So much of their day is planned- allow them time to let their imaginations run free.

❤️ Practice handwriting and fine motor skills with the use of lined paper.
