This activity has students write poems centered around Valentine's Day, and has them read their poem to someone picked at random in the class. This lesson uses comparisons to create vivid imagery, and uses guided vocabulary (body, soul, mind, emotions, etc...) for scaffolding. The free preview contains the student worksheet, and the lesson itself is the accompanying powerpoint, including, vocabulary, examples of poetic devices, needed transition words, and examples of appropriate comparisons. My students particularly enjoy the reading of the poems, and it has always been a positive experience. Best suited for levels 2-4.
