Poetry is such a great way to encourage reading. This poetic Valentine is my own original work. It can be read on its own and/or copied onto chart paper to add to your collection of choral/shared reading activities.
In this download you will find three written versions of the poem as a handout:
-a one-page full script
-a one-page cloze version (fill-in-the-blanks) with a word bank
-a one-page cloze version without a word bank
Updated August 2016: This now includes an illustrated minibook!
-Double half-page minibook pages for creating multiple minibooks
-Different half-page minibook pages for creating one book only
-One sheet of 10 tiny pages to create one tiny book at a time
-BONUS: A separate file of full-size pages in PDF format to display as a slide show on a projector. (You must have a program that can do this using fullscreen or slide show mode.)
Please note: The book pages are shifted slightly to the right to make a little bit of room for staples on the left hand side.
Other Bonus Activities: There are a few other worksheet type pages such as a scrambled word page, find the rhyming pairs, list the adjectives, etc. There are several levels represented and it wouldn’t be practical to use all of the pages. That would be boring! (Did I actually say that?:) Just choose two or three pages that work for you, depending on your needs. There are few directions on the pages so that you can customize your expectations for the students. Some pages refer to and use words from the poem. Other pages reference the general topic of Valentine’s Day.
