My students really love to do hands-on activities. They really enjoy reading activities that include coloring. I struggled to find ways to keep the content rigorous but still give them something they enjoy. These types of activities were just the thing. Using this, my students still must analyze a fictional text, but then they get to color in their answers. It also provides a quick answer check for both the student and the teacher.
The idea is that students read the 2 page story. You can have the students annotate the passage any way you require. Then students answer 10 multiple choice questions about theme, character description and feelings, setting, point of view and more. After the students have their answers, they then color in the picture.
