Valentine's Day Sensory Writing Prompts, ELA 6-12
Here you’ll find five fun sensory writing prompts to use in the month of February. These would make great bell ringers, post-quiz or test activities, or options in a writing center. Each one invites students to focus specifically on their use of sensory detail.
If you’d like to extend the activity beyond 10-15 minutes of writing, here are a few ideas…
You could have students trade and underline all of the sensory details they can find in each other’s work.
You could ask everyone to contribute one example of sensory detail from their story aloud to the whole group.
You could randomly pick a sense and call for examples of taste, smell, etc.
You could let partners share their stories, then ask for nominations for the most powerful sensory image, put them all on the board, and let the class vote for the winner.
