Vocabulary teaching is critical to student success. Knowing word relationships is a big part of vocabulary instruction. Here is a set of 50 synonym cards with a heart/Valentine theme (but can be used year-round) for practice with synonyms.
* They can be used to play “Memory” or “Go-Fish” or “Old Maid” type card games.
* You can also spread them out at a literacy center (or on the table at therapy time) and have students work cooperatively to match them up.
* You can also distribute them among the students and have each take a turn saying, “I have __, who has the synonym?”
* You can spread half of them around the room and have students walk around to match the others to them.
