Valentine's Day: Writing Activity - 4th Grade Common Core

Happy Valentine's Day! :-)

This is a writing activity that is perfect for the week of Valentine's Day or for the month of February. But, keep in mind that it will also work well for any time of the year because it is not really Valentine related, it is simply about a place they love.

It is on the topic of "The Place I Love" where students write about the special place they love, whether it be a fort, their grandmother's house, a restaurant, or whatever comes to mind as their special place.

You can also purchase this file as part of a BUNDLED pack.

Included with this activity is a heart organizer to name their special place as well as tell nouns found in this place, adjectives to describe the place, verbs to tell what they do in the place, and reasons they love the place. There is also an organizer with three boxes for them to organize the beginning, middle, and end. of their writing. I suggest you copy these on the front and back.

You will also get heart themed writing paper for their final copy, which they can also color. In addition, you get an illustration paper for them to illustrate "The Place I Love". I mount the writing and Illustration and final copy on a large piece of construction paper and hang outside my room.

I have also taken the fourth grade common core standards for grammar/writing and typed them out on a piece of paper titled, " I LOVE trying out the skills I've learned in language arts" My students used this as a guide to try and implement a few things they learned into their writing, or as a check list. For example, they used it to make sure they went back and checked over their capitalization, but it also gave them the idea to try out some writing skills like including a simile in their writing or to include a compound sentence.

I hope your students enjoy!
