Valentine’s Day Writing and Patterning Fun! CCS Aligned
This product is a great addition to your Valentine’s Day themed stations / workshop. It can be used as Morning Work or part of the Literacy/ Math centers.
Students work on: improving vocabulary, reading fluency, use their schemata when describing Valentine’s Day related pictures, patterning, improving reading and writing skills, comparing and contrasting, using 5 Senses and other graphic organizers. Differentiated approach based on your students’ skill level.

Writing prompt – Valentine’s Day (1 page)

Writing prompt – Making a Valentine (1 page)
“My Valentine’s Day Patterning Book”. Students color the Valentine’s Day related pictures and correctly identify the patterns (AB, ABB, AAB, ABC). Students create patterns by reading words, cutting the corresponding images and pasting them in the correct pattern format. Students also draw their own pattern.
Writing activities – 6 pages total (3 with colorful clipart and SAME 3 with black & white clipart). Students trace, write and finish sentences. The focus is on sight words as well as on proper letter formation and proper conventions of writing.
12 Valentine’s Day related picture cards for: labeling pictures and/or write the initial letter sound and/or write the ending letter sound, and/or listing nouns/verbs that would go with the images.
2 pages with 12 images/pictures total.
Writing page – for the 12 picture cards related tasks (1 page).
Writing prompts: 7 writing prompts all related to Valentine’s Day related images/pictures. Students read and trace one sentence and finish one or more sentences.
Graphic Organizer: (Valentines: are, have, can) – 1 page
KWL chart – Valentine’s Day – 1 page
5 Senses – Candy – 1 page
Venn Diagrams – 2 pages
