Valentine’s Day is a day to show people you love and care about them. But not all countries reserve just ONE day of the year to celebrate their sweetheart and loved ones!
This bundle of Authentic Text Reading Activities includes holidays similar to Valentine’s Day in other countries; Día del Amigo in Argentina, Día de la Rosa y el Libro in Spain, and Día del Amor y la Amistad in Colombia.
These activities are sold individually, but buy them all and it's even better than buy two get one free!
• Target Audience for all Activities – Spanish I or II high school, 9th-12th grades
• Students Language Level – Students should be at a Novice Low/Mid level
• Materials – The authentic text for each country is from a blog online. A copy of the text is included, and no changes were made; students will see the text in its authentic form. I recommend printing a class set of the authentic text in color (to show the photos) and keeping them in sheet protectors. Students will answer questions on their own worksheet.
• As the internet is constantly changing, I have provided a QR code and link to a PDF. The PDF is a screenshot of the blogs, so they are preserved even if their original website is removed.
• Steps for reading –
o Pre-reading: First, quickly identify where each country is on a map. Then look at the pictures and title of the text as a class. Ask for volunteers to say what they think this text will be about and why they think that.
*This demonstrates critical thinking skills to the other students.*
o Then, students will complete activities for each of the three blog articles.
o The screenshots of the blogs are located at the bottom of this packet.
o Note: The assignments are in English to prove comprehension. Upper-level classes often do comprehension checks in the target language, but as Spanish I/II students, English responses are the only way to guarantee that the student understands what he or she read.
