These valentine’s day activities reinforce skills needing daily practice in letter, number and shape recognition; sorting and social skills for preschool and kindergarten.

Here is a description of each activity:

Friendship and Kindness Activity:
This is a fun sorting activity that works great to reinforce positive social skills with young learners. Review with students what a friend is and brainstorm ideas on what makes a good friend using posters I have provided. The students will then sort through 20 unique picture cards that show animals being kind and unkind. They need to decide if the action is something that would make a good friend or not.
How you can use this resource:
This can be used in a large group or small group activity, and works well to supplement a Valentines, Friendship or Animals themed week.
Skills practiced in this resource:
Empathy, Expressing emotions and feelings, Establishing relationships with people outside of their family members

Painting with Q-tips - Editable Math and/or Literacy Activity:
Color-by-number (letter or small sight word, too) using q-tips and 3 paint colors you have on hand. You will enter into a table 3 numbers, letters or 3-letter sight words you want your students to practice. Then, the document will auto-populate the rest. Once the students complete the activity, a simple heart is revealed. There are 6 different colored hearts, approximately 3”x4” in size.
There are two versions: one for kinders and the other for pre-k.
How you can use this resource:
This can be used independently for older students, or during large or small group time. It also works well to supplement Valentines themed lesson plans.

Shape Sorting Math Activity:
The shape love bugs have escaped! We need to find them and put them back into their shape jar! This activity practices shape sorting with young learners. There are 8 shapes and each shape has cards with the shape in different sizes and orientations to practice correctly name shapes regardless of their orientation or overall size. Shapes practiced include: heart, rectangle, square, circle, triangle, star, oval, and crescent.
How you can use this resource:
Sort the love bugs by shape and size using sorting strips - ideal for independent or small group use; and Sort the love bugs by shape using bug jar mats- ideal for a large or small group
activity.
Skills practiced in this resource:
Literacy and math skills (depending on the letters and/or numbers you use), fine motor skills
