Scoot is a great, fun way to get students moving around the room while learning.“SCOOT” is a movement game. It is a fun, engaging way to practice concepts. The teacher places the cards on the students’ desks or around the room. The teacher describes the rotation path for the students. The students record their answers on the answer sheet. When they hear the teacher call out “SCOOT”, they move to the next question. When all of the cards are completed, the class reviews the responses (or checks the answers by scanning the QR Codes on each task card with a QR Code reader)
The setup of this game is easy:
Place a task card on each students’ desk or around the room. Students read the present tense verb form on the card. The students will write the past tense form of the verb on the answer sheet. The cards do not have to be in order. Students should be careful to write down the answer in the correct box on the answer
key. The answer key provides all 56 answers. If you choose a shorter version, there is an answer sheet with only 20 boxes for the first 20 task cards. There are also two sheets for two different games (for playing the game on different days).
These sheets have numbers 1-28 on the first answer sheet and numbers 29-56 on the second answer sheet. Finally, there is an answer sheet for all 56 answers.
With this option you could place multiple cards on each students’ desk or place them around the room or in the hallway.
Try it with Technology!
This version of my Valentines with Verbs Scoot game has a technology component. Students can use their ios (iPhone, iPod Touch, or iPad) or android device with a QR Code Reader (free app) to scan the QR Codes. The answers to each task card can either be found on the answer key or students can use the QR Code reader to self-correct their answers. QR Codes are so much fun. The answers are the past tense form of the irregular verbs.
