Students read a passage about George Washington and Valley Forge. As they read, students answer questions in a reading guide. Students are given vocabulary terms for the unit. They then have a choice menu to complete. They must complete one activity from each column. There's a vocabulary column, comprehension coloumn, and extenstion column. Lesson is differentiated with activities from different learning styles. This is a great way to hit reading and social studies. I typically gave students a quiz at the end of the week over the vocabulary and nonfiction reading passage.
