Do you have a 21st century classroom? Create a values-based classroom and promote 21st century learning skills using this collaborative activity!
This resource includes a two-part activity to help students apply 21st century learning skills to design a values-based classroom culture.
Why is this important?
A values-based classroom encourages student ownership in the learning environment and establishes a foundation for the classroom experience.
✓ Pt. 1: Establishing Classroom Values
In the first part of this activity, students are challenged to analyze 60 values cards and think critically about their importance in the learning environment. In completing this activity, students are exercising 21st-century skills such as collaboration, critical thinking, adaptability, leadership, citizenship, oral communication skills, and social responsibility.
The top classroom values determined through this activity can be used as a foundation for the classroom experience and as as springboard for student-led rule and classroom expectation creation.
✓ Pt. 2: Establishing Personal Values
In the follow-up part of this activity, students are provided a chance to carefully reflect on what they stand for... what is most important to them in terms of their value system. This activity provides students an opportunity to think critically about what motivates them and what they are striving for.
✏️Includes teacher's guides, sorting cards, and student reflection and recording sheets.
✏️BONUS: Classroom values banners! Use the banners to display the classroom values your students have established through this activity.
To shape 21st century leaders we must explicitly teach students how to identify and apply core values within their environment and ultimately their lives. Use this resource as a way to jumpstart this effort!
