Activities based on the series "What If There Were No..." by Suzanne Slade
(activities can be done independently from the book)
This is a great review for food webs/chains and ecosystems! Included in the packet are animal/plant cards for 4 different ecosystems: tundra, ocean, temperate forest, and grassland (samples of animals/plants from the book).
Divide the students into small groups. Laminate the cards for durability. Students spread the cards out on a surface (floor, table, large desk, etc) and use the dry erase marker to draw arrows to create a food web. (It can be erased with dry erase cloths, Clorox wipes, etc).
A follow up activity is where students choose an animal and draw a food chain/web (it can be based off the cards or one of their own choosing).
This was a great activity and writing on the tables really motivated my students and promoted some great discussions about food webs!
