Description
Oh, the student struggle with independent vs dependent variables...
I use this worksheet with my General Enviro Sci class (mixed 10th-12th graders) to help them extract variables from an experimental question, determine which is the IV vs DV, and then use the variables to formulate a hypothesis using the if/then/because format.
This is basically in I do-we do-you do format. I walk the students through the first portion of the worksheet and they fill it in with me. We do the second portion as a class, and then I have them do the last part on their own (or in small groups).
We do this worksheet within one class period. I have a second worksheet that I assign as homework that has more practice; the rest of class is used for them to work on their homework.
