Variant Vowels Phonics 1 ou ow all au aw
As at risk readers struggle to decode words with the variant vowel sounds they get a major boost from this center. Each set of flashcards is picture coded above the vowel letters. This helps enormously in the decoding of multisyllable words. Students immediately gain confidence as they apply the picture coding to unknown multisyllable words. The sounds become internalized and the carryover is amazing.
This can be used as a teacher directed intervention with small groups or used at a literacy station in the classroom.
Included are 5 different vowels sets of 16 picture coded flashcards. This is a total of 80 flashcards. These same sets of flashcards are included without the picture code for authentic assessment and more drill type activities.
Sorting visuals of these 5 different variant vowels are provided along with student recording sheets and self checking answer sheets. Teachers control differentiation easily by using 1, 2 or more flashcard sets at a time. Easy sort with the picture coded flash cards. Hard sort using the flash cards without the picture coding.
Sorting visuals are included to do multisyllable sorts. Student recording sheets and student self checking answer sheets are included. Teacher controls differentiation by using the picture coded flashcard sets for an easy sort, and then using the flash cards without the picture code for a harder syllable sorting. There are words with one, two, three, and four syllables.
Fluency checking is made easy by reading from the vowel sort answer sheets and also using the syllable sort answer sheets for a more accurate check.
