Often students write with similar openings to their sentences within paragraphs, essays, etc. How many times have teachers read a student's work with "I like soccer"..."I like the way my coach helps me"..."I especially like the team members"? The purpose of these worksheets is to 1) teach how to vary a sentence opening; 2) demonstrate that repetition and over-used words can be spotted and changed; and 3) allow students a practice worksheet to write one sentence three different ways. Verbs, nouns, and other parts of speech are color-coded to help students visually notice repetition within the examples as well as in their writing. This is an excellent mini-lesson for writers who need to build their writing skills. Another product by Debra A. Boyle, M.Ed.
