Students frequently struggle to move beyond the basic “First … Next … Then …” use of transition words when writing single or multi-paragraph essays. This lesson teaches them how to VARY the transition word to a more interesting one, and then BURY the transition word somewhere deeper in the sentence. Cooperative learning structures have been embedded in this lesson to increase student engagement.
