Product Description
This activity for the Age of Exploration features a primary source excerpt about Vasco da Gama in India and his brutal treatment of the population there. It features the 1-page reading, a worksheet based on the reading, and an answer key.

The reading is an excerpt from the journal of Portuguese historian who sailed with Vasco da Gama. It vividly describes how da Gama responded to a riot at Calicut on the southeast Indian coast. An introduction, map, and pictures help students to visualize the event along with the passage.

The worksheet features 7 questions, 5 of which are open-ended for students to think critically about what they read. This is a great tool to increase your students' reading skills, comprehension, and critical thinking.

This resource, along with many more engaging activities for teaching about the Age of Discovery can be found in this Age of Exploration and Discovery Complete Unit Bundle.
