This verb conjugation game includes 27 activities focusing on gerunds and the following tenses: present, preterite, present progressive, and tú positive commands. Additionally, students will practice direct objects & people as direct objects, and direct object pronouns as presented in chapter 3B of Realidades 2. Verbs are divided into regular, irregular, stem-changing verbs.
The computer randomly chooses a verb and provides various prompts to students for them to conjugate the verb and manipulate the direct object and direct object pronoun when appropriate. A more detailed description of the activities is found below.
This activity is great for reinforcing topics previously covered in the book and learning new concepts presented in the chapter. My struggling students say it helps them learn the verb endings and demonstrate a desire to do it several days in a row.
All activities can be either automated with an adjustable timer or you can use the manual mode to choose your own pace. Start by inviting your students to calmly shout out answers to the questions they see as a big group. Then perhaps have the computer randomly draw a student’s name and have him/her alone answer the question.
You can load the names of your students (up to 40) in the last four slides. If you have a student who is absent, you can mark him absent and his name will not appear. Displaying individual names is a great way to keep students on their toes. You can enter the names one at a time or load them up from a text file—very handy if you intend to purchase additional products in this series!

Detailed description of the activities:
In activities 1 - 4, students are given a verb, its translation, and a person. Students are expected to provide the correct gerund form. Verbs are divided into: regular forms, irregular forms, reflexive forms with the object attached, and “stem-changing or not?” forms. You may choose to not show the translations of the verbs for any activity by adjusting the settings.
In activities 5 - 6 students are given a person, an infinitive and the translation of the infinitive. They are expected to create a sentence with the prompts given in the present progressive. Verbs are divided into regular and irregular form gerunds.
In activity 7 students are given a person, an infinitive and the translation of the infinitive. They are expected to provide a question in the present progressive, putting the subject and verb in the correct order.
In activities 8 - 9 students are given a question in the present progressive. They are expected to answer the question. You may alter settings for this block of activities and choose the response subject to practice when the subject in the question is first person. Verbs are divided into regular and irregular form gerunds.
In activities 10 - 12 students are given an infinitive and its translation. They are to provide the tú positive command. Verbs are divided into regular & stem-changing, irregular, and reflexive verbs.
In activities 13 – 18 students are given a person, an infinitive, and a direct object in both English and Spanish. Students are to create a sentence with the prompts, changing the direct object to the appropriate pronoun. Activities are divided into the following sections: present, preterite, present progressive with objects before, present progressive with objects after, and tú positive commands.
In activities 19 - 25 students are given a question with a direct object that just happens to be a person. They are expected to answer the question with the correct direct object pronoun. Color coding is available for this block of activities—the direct object in the question and the pronoun in the answer will be highlighted in red if you set the program to do so. I recommend starting out this way and making it more difficult over time by not color coding. Activities are broken into the following categories: present, preterite, present progressive with objects before, present progressive with objects after, infinitive expressions with objects before, infinitive expressions with objects after, and tú positive commands.
In activity 26 students are given a person, an infinitive, and its translation. They are then to correctly conjugate the verb in the present, preterite, and present progressive—all three forms per verb in a rapid fire session! You may make it more challenging by having the verbs appear in “Surprise” order, rather than the predictable present, preterite, present progressive order.
In activity 27 students are provided with prompts to make a sentence. They will see a person, an infinitive, a translation of the infinitive, and two randomly chosen words from the chapter. They are to make a sentence in the allotted time—I recommend a minute for starters.
In order to use this PowerPoint correctly you must enable macros on your computer. When you open the presentation, near the top of the screen you will see a question asking for your permission to run the code which enables this PowerPoint to function.
