(This activity template can be modified for various verb tenses and for any language that you want to practice conjugating verbs.)
Students often struggle with being able to conjugate quickly and may hesitate to speak much because those pesky verbs just slow them down and get in the way. Wouldn't it be nice if students could get past this and be able to conjugate verbs more accurately and quickly ... much like a knee-jerk reaction!? When students can conjugate without having to think too much about it, it makes conversation a lot more fluid and gives new speakers a lot of confidence.
TO HELP STUDENTS GET THIS KIND OF PRACTICE, here is a simple student-centered activity which, oddly, they really enjoy! (Or at least not complain much about!) My students actually ask ME if they can practice their conjugation as long as they're doing this activity!
This activity has students moving around the room (they like to get out of their seats!) and visiting multiple partners throughout the activity, each partner having a different verb list to challenge each other with. Partners time each other with their speed challenges and record their peers' improving time as they get better and better. Peers reciprocate the activity for each other. This activity can have teacher-attached time goals or can be used just for recording personal bests. Both the speed part of this activity is very motivating for the students as well as their desire to get to all the numbers of lists and fill their chart.
*You may edit this template to allow for more/fewer/different verb conjugations.
** If the document seems distorted when you open it, change the margins to "Narrow" and make sure the verb list pages are set in "2 column" format.
