Help your students review verb tenses (simple present, simple past, simple future, present perfect, past perfect, and future perfect) in this engaging trashketball game! All that you will need is the ability to project a Power Point presentation, a ball, some dark tape, and a trash can.
In this game, there are four rounds. In the first round, students simply identify the underlined verb tense (simple present, simple past, or simple future). In round two, they identify the underlined verb tense (present perfect, past perfect, or future perfect). In round three, the challenge increases, as they identify the underlined verb tense from all tense choices, and finally, in round four they identify the verbs and their tenses.
Research shows that students often learn best when they can move, and this game motivates them with their love of sports. When you put your students in heterogeneous groups for a game with friendly competition, it is an excellent way to meet the needs of all of your students, especially your English Language Learners, and reward them for their success.
This activity makes excellent guided practice after instruction for verb tenses. Then follow the game with independent practice. Instructions for both students and the teacher are included, along with a key.
