Verb Tenses and Auxiliaries Slide Presentation includes the PowerPoint and an Easel version which provide an overview, or a good review, of specific verb tenses and types of auxiliary verbs that students in middle school and upper elementary grades need to address.

The presentation provides a clear explanation of each concept with text and graphics designed for middle school and upper elementary students. Here are the topics that are addressed in the presentation:

  • Basic Verb Tenses
  • Correcting Tense Shifts
  • Progressive Verb Tenses
  • Auxiliary Verbs
  • Perfect Verb Tenses

Slides with review and practice questions for students to respond to are included to increase student engagement. The answers for each of these slides are provided on the slide immediately following.

The Easel Activity is ready to assign with answer boxes and directions already in place for student use. Answer slides have been removed from the Easel version as well.

Also included with the presentation is a student note sheet for the students to complete while they view the slides. A completed version is also provided for students who might need that option.

This Verb Tenses and Auxiliaries Slide Presentation support Common Core Standards for Language by addressing specific grammar situations outlined in the standards, including the correct use of present, past, and future verb tenses, recognizing and correcting shifts in verb tense when needed, forming and using progressive and perfect verb tense, and using modal auxiliary verbs.
