Although I taught most lessons in Spanish, Spanish 1 and 2 had up to three hours each week when they needed to communicate using only Spanish. My advanced level courses were taught in Spanish and during the majority of the class hour, students were also required to speak in Spanish. The literature was in Spanish and during interactive literature circle, the students were required to complete their tasks “hablando español”. All of my classroom interactive notebooks and dialogues were in Spanish and I needed a simple way to keep track and reward students for using the language. If I didn't model the expectation, why would my students need to attempt the language?
