Integrate grammar and literature with this fun game to review verbals. Throughout this power point presentation, teams of students review verbal phrases including gerunds, participles, and infinitives and compete to shoot baskets into a trash can.
Research shows that movement can lead to increased learning, and this game motivates students with their love of sports. When you put your students in heterogeneous groups for a game with friendly competition, it is an excellent way to meet the needs of all of your students and reward them for their success.
In this game, each round incorporates sentences about classic literature including To Kill a Mockingbird, The Great Gatsby, and A Raisin in the Sun. For the first two rounds, students simply identify the underlined verbal in each sentence, but the difficulty increases in the third round when they have to both identify and write the verbal phrase in each sentence.
Depending on the ability of your students, the game usually takes 45 minutes to play. The power point presentation includes a slide which explains the rules at the beginning of the game, and a key is provided on the last slide.
With this game, you will be amazed that your students will want to learn grammar! If your students enjoy this game, you may be interested in these other Trashketball games including the following:
