Oh, those verbals! They start out easy enough for kids but students can quickly get bogged down. These lessons are clear, straightforward and reliable. I begin with gerunds. Then I move on to infinitives. Finally, participles are last. Hopefully, as you move slowly along, students will have smooth sailing with this concept. You will have to decide how many of the activities you do in a class period. There are 13 activities in all. If you choose to do the entire lesson, it will take you anywhere from one week to two weeks, again, depending on how many activities you do in a class period. You can also teach gerunds then wait a while, then teach infinitives then wait a while then teach participles. Finally, test over all of them.
The lesson contains:
• Short writing assignments
• Final Test
• KEYs for all worksheets, quizzes, and the test
• Teacher instructions
It is Common Core aligned: CCSS.ELA-Literacy.L.8.1a Explain the function of verbals (gerunds, participles, infinitives) in general and their function in particular sentences.
