Studying verbs and types of sentences? This scaffolded grammar activity pulls sentences from The Hunger Games and analyzes them, focusing on verbs and types of sentences. The sentences come from chapter 6. The mentor sentence activity actually is divided into two:
* Identifying verbs in the sentences. (Most students need to do this anyway to find independent and dependent clauses - to find the type of sentences). If your students are not ready to identify sentences, the worksheet will work in finding verbs.
* Identifying types of sentences: simple, compound, complex, compound-complex.
These mentor sentences show students that their grammar lessons connect to literature.
