Are your students writing run-on sentences?
Chances are, they do they not recognize the verbs of being as verbs. (I teach 7th and 8th grade, and normally only 1 or 2 students out of 100 recognize am, is, are, was, were, be, been, being as verbs which are often the second part of the two components that make up a sentence (subjects and verbs).
This quick and fun individual whiteboard lesson (complete with a homework assignment (both computer and printed version) will have your students humming these verbs to the tune of “Camptown Races.”
The lesson works best with a Smartboard and individual student whiteboards but can be tweaked to fit your needs.
Please download my free “Using Whiteboards to Increase Student Motivation in Secondary Students” for more information on classroom whiteboards.
