PRODUCT DESCRIPTION

This is a full lesson plan (40 minutes), on teaching third graders about vertebrates. This lesson can be used to teach middle school students about vertebrates as well. Students will make a model or a representation of a backbone using wagon wheel pasta and gummy life savers. They will also use a pipe cleaner that acts as or represents our spinal cord, the hard wagon wheel pasta are the vertebrae (bones of the backbone) and the soft gummy life saver rings are the soft disks made of rubbery cartilage in between the bones to protect the bones and prevent them from rubbing and scraping together.
