Veterans Day: Poster Activity
Let your students express themselves for Veterans Day by using this 8.5 x 11 poster (landscape) that focuses on this special day.
(Interesting note... Veterans Day does not include an apostrophe because it is not a day belonging to Veterans. It is a day to honor Veterans. This is according to the US Veterans Affairs on the correct spelling)
This poster will look great hanging outside your classroom and parents will enjoy reading them when they are sent home.
The Veterans Day poster activity has plenty of places for students to add their own creative touches with color.
The sections for the students to fill out are:
*place for name
*Name the 5 branches of the Military (if they don't know these, you may have to help them)
*Tell the significance of the date November 11th. NOTE: 5th grade studies this typically, but you may have to explain this part to third-fourth graders. I have included a teacher explanation that they could write in the blank.
*Acrostic poem for "veteran"
*Design a commemorative stamp.
*Character traits of veterans
*What is Veteran's Day?
*Tell the difference between Veterans and Memorial Days.
*How would life in the US be different if we didn't have a military? (enough room for one example or basic explanation)
*My personal thank-you message to Veterans.....
Use as a center activity or even as morning work. Use it in your classroom however you would like.
