Looking for a Veterans Day activity that will integrate into reading and writing lessons? After printing this two-page webquest, your students will be able to visit four different websites to gather and learn information about Veterans Day and military heroes.
Students will scan each QR Code, which will take them to either a video or an informational website. I have also included two pages without QR Codes with the links of each website included in the teacher directions. After watching the video or reading the information, students will answer one to three questions about that particular website. The questions include information that is directly stated, as well as questions that require students to make inferences and support their answers.
After researching and gaining a new respect for Veterans, students can write an acrostic poem using words that describe Veterans and their service. I have also included letters to spell out the word Veteran to display or use when reading aloud their poems. I have used this to replace our annual Veterans Day Essay Contest. I select one student to read aloud each letter of the word Veteran during our Veterans Day program.
