Veterans Day: Recognize Veterans Day using this fun word search puzzle. If your students are like mine, they love these. It's filled with vocabulary that will get your kids talking about the importance of saying thank you to our Veterans.
Keep the challenge level in mind if choosing this for 3rd graders. In this Veterans Day word search, words are found forward, backward, up, down, and diagonal. I would consider it on the challenging side since students are looking for words in all directions.
Interesting note... Veterans Day does not include an apostrophe because it is not a day belonging to Veterans. It is a day to honor Veterans. This is according to the US Veterans Affairs on the correct spelling.
I use word search puzzles to introduce vocabulary, or even just give it as morning work to go along with a holiday theme or topic we are studying in class. They are also great to use for writing. You could have students practice their writing by using some of the words from the word search. Then when they are finished with the writing, they get to complete the puzzle. Have your students write a thank you letter to a Veteran and include some of the vocabulary from the word search list.
Of course you don't have to do the writing part, you could simply use it for the puzzle.
This Veterans Day word search is perfect for a sub, too!! Even use as a follow up activity to a movie on Veterans Day.
