Scaffolded writing!

Students will read excerpts from three speeches on Vietnam. The first is from Martin Luther King, "A Time to Break Silence," speech, the second is from . John Kerry's speech to the U.S. Senate Foreign Relations Committee, and the third is from a speech delivered by Lyndon B Johnson. For each speech, students will determine whether the the speaker was for or against the war. Then students will choose a direct quote from the speech that shows the speakers opinion, they will write their interpretation of the quote.

Finally, students will summarize the arguments that the speakers provided for and against US military involvement in Vietnam. Students will then write one paragraph on whether they feel the US was justified in becoming involved in Vietnam or not.
