This full 90 minute lesson includes everything you need to review the Vietnam War and get students thinking about it's impact on society. This lesson includes a warm up comparing primary sources (the Gulf of Tonkin Resolution and the War Powers Resolution), a slideshow for some guided instruction about the Vietnam War, and six sets of readings from various perspectives so that students can work together to understand the perspectives of different groups during the war and to share their thoughts in a fishbowl discussion. Teacher instructions are included. The perspectives included are: U.S. Government, Nixon, African-Americans, Those Who Served, Anti-War Movement, and the Silent Majority.
I used this lesson in my AP classes after having students read about the Vietnam War on their own and a brief introduction in the class previously. It is a great overview of the war but also a challenge to think more deeply and take on perspectives using primary sources. I hope you enjoy it!
