Product Description

I don't know about you but while movies can be a great lens for studying history (both World and US) I don't have the time (or an administration) that would let me show an entire movie in class. This activity allows me to show important clips from Vietnam War movies that helps provide my students with a greater understanding of the Vietnam War. It also analyzes Literature through excerpts from The Things They Carried by Tim O'Brien. Utilizing film and literature ensures that they aren't just passively watching but are rather actively thinking and analyzing the clip.

Clips from two different movies (Platoon and The Green Berets) are analyzed and as well as a section on The Things They Carried by Tim O'Brien also included. All of the clips can be found on youtube by searching the movie name and the clip name. This is one of my favorite activities to do all year and my students love it. They enjoy it because we are watching clips from movies and I love it because it actually engages their mind, they practice analytical historical skills, and we discuss each item after we watch that clip.

An answer key is not included since a decent amount of the questions ask students to put themselves into the scene and how they would feel.

I hope you enjoy this activity as much as I and my class do!
