Use this slideshow while teaching about the Vietnam War. It begins with an activity called Pick a Side. Place two signs at either side of the room - YES/NO - and project the statements. Students will walk to the appropriate side of the room. This allows you to provide some background information, learn what they already know, and lets you clear up misconceptions.
Some of the greatest Vietnam War films are suggested for students on the next slide - clicking on each image will allow you to show the theatrical preview for each film. Links to two important speeches, Nixon's Silent Majority and John Kerry's address to Congress, are provided (video and audio clips) for students to use while reading transcripts. The next slide offers students 11 different interactive activities - give them choice and let them explore!
The final slides are for use if you plan to conduct a Mock Draft. Students who are 'drafted' have five choices...each choice is explained and there are questions for their consideration.
