The 3x3 bingo set was originally designed for level 1 Vietnamese learners or for 1st to 3rd grade. It contains all 29 letters. However, can be used for any age group. Use according to the knowledge your students possess. =)
The 5x5 bingo set was designed for middle school and high school students in mind. These students may be taking Vietnamese I language elective or they are in Viet II and higher and need a fun quick review of their alphabet. Appropriate for 4th to 12th grade. The 5x5 bingo set contains all 29 letters with the added 8 letter combinations (ph, ch, tr, qu, gi, th, kh, ng, nh) to create the other letter sounds in the Vietnamese language giving you a total of 38 choices.
How to play?
1) I pass out bingo cards to my students.
2) I explain to my students that to win “circle any letter I call out on your bingo card. If you do not have that letter then you can’t circle it. If you circle a complete horizontal, vertical or diagonal line then yell out BINGO. I’m the referee too so I will check if you have the correct letters and then you’ll announce your winning letters in Vietnamese for the whole class to hear and we’ll celebrate with you.”
3) We’ll play a new game by erasing all our circle marks and now choosing to do stars to keep track of the new letters called out
