The Vikings – 12 Graphic Organizers and 4 Activities includes the following:
12 research pages organized in a graphic organizer format – 6 topics are covered:
--- The Viking Way of Life, Exploration, Settlement, Myths and Gods, Archaeology, and Artifacts. Each one is designed to encourage students to research, make inquiry, gather facts, and express their own conclusions in writing.
There are 4 additional activities:
1) a True or False sheet that is perfect to introduce the Vikings and generate a discussion on what students know;
2) a Vocabulary activity of words associated with the Vikings;
3) a three-page internet search on the Viking alphabet and writing with runes (there is a strong vocabulary component here – the students will be using a PBS article online and it also includes a chance to use a fun interactive activity online that involves using the Viking runic alphabet)
4) a four-page question and answer unit on a video found on YouTube (Digging for the Truth). The video is 45 minutes long and the question/answers are arranged in segments of time so it could be done over more than one class period (or independently).
An answer key is included with as much detail as I could include and there are website URLs provided for you and your students to find out more information. Also included is a Common Core Alignment for Social Studies Grades 6-8 which includes the components covered in this product.
I have a shorter version of this product listed in my store as well – it includes 7 graphic organizers and 3 activities (it does not include the organizers on Myths and Gods, Archaeology and Artifacts or the activity based on the online video). Please be aware that if you buy this product you should not purchase the shorter version or you will be duplicating part of the product!
