A list of 36 exercises, hand-selected and put in order specifically for use in a school drama or theatre setting.
I think you will find the list extremely helpful in planning a Viola Spolin Acting Training unit.
When I started teaching, I had a copy of Viola Spolin’s book Improvisation for the Theater
, but when I sat down with the 412 page textbook containing over 200 acting exercises and tried to plan out a series of lessons, I was quickly overwhelmed.
I wanted my students to go through some kind of “official" acting training, and I had seen how these particular exercises were helpful to young acting students, but I found that the book had so many games to choose from, and it was just too bulky to carry around while I was teaching. If you are like me, this list is exactly what you need to get started!
I use this sequence of exercises as the acting technique component
of my high school Theatre Arts 2 classes.
