Product Description
Create and color-code your own violin scale charts for 1st, 2nd, and 3rd positions. All 12 major scales can be created using a combination of only 4 finger patterns! Measures contain notes for only one string at a time. Therefore each measure represents one of 4 finger patterns (see the patterns below). Students will draw in the key signature, blacken in all of the tonics (for example, in the D major scale, students should blacken every D), and then mark the half steps. After completing these steps, they should color-code each measure to show which finger patterns are used. I follow the color-code suggestions in Barbara Barber's book "Fingerboard Geography," but you can use any color-code system you want. Barbara Barber suggests the following color-code system for finger patterns:

Red = whole-half-whole
Blue = half-whole-whole
Yellow-Pink = whole-whole-half
Green = whole-whole-whole

For example, in the red pattern, the distance between the:
1st and 2nd fingers = whole step
2nd and 3rd fingers = half step
3rd and 4th fingers = whole step
