Note: This is the crossover year for the new SOLs. Teachers are expected to teach both the old and new SOLs! The Spring SOL test will include information from both versions of the SOLS, however, the new material will be only in the form of field test questions. I'm updating all of my materials to ADD the new information this year, and NEXT summer (2017), I will delete the parts of the SOLs that have been deleted from the new version.
This is a 26 page instructional unit lesson on Virginia's Geography. It covers all of the 4th grade Virginia Studies SOLs - VS.2 a, b, & c. This SMART Board lesson usually takes me about 2 weeks to teach. It is fun, organized, interactive, and very entertaining! My students love the many video clips, games, and interactive features! Topics include:
*Maps, Globes, Direction Words, Relative Location
*Geography Studies - Earth's continents, oceans, equator, hemispheres
*Virginia and it's place on the Earth, Continent, & Country
*Virginia's 5 Geographic Regions - Land Features, location, Coastal Plain Region, Piedmont Region, Blue Ridge Mountains Region, Valley & Ridge Region, Appalachian Plateau Region
*Virginia's 4 Major Rivers - location & cities - Potomac (Alexandria), Rappahannock (Fredericksburg), James (Jamestown), & (Richmond), and York (Yorktown)
*Virginia's bordering bodies of water - Chesapeake Bay & Atlantic Ocean - location, early use to colonists; also, The Eastern Shore
Dismal Swamp & Lake Drummond - location, wildlife, exploration by George Washington
