This packet is designed for SLPs who work in Virginia. Virginia uses the Standards of Learning, which overlaps with the Common Core State Standards. Since I work in the state of Virginia, I wanted to design screenings for my students that would align to these standards.
Articulation mastery is based on the Iowa Nebraska Articulation Norms (per VDOE). There are words for each position, where applicable. Have student repeat each word and score as 1 or 0. Words are colored coded based on age. Administer the appropriate words for the student based on his/her age. Students in upper grades should have all sounds. Vocalic /r/ is included. Print and laminate the articulation page and record results on the screening form.
There is a 2 page screening form for grades K-6th. The language skills targeted focus on the Oral Language/Communication and some Reading Strands of the SOLs. The standard is listed after each question. Print and laminate pg. 5-7; these are the stimuli pages for the younger grades. The questions that require the picture stimuli have an (P) after the question. Be aware that the phonological awareness questions may be more difficult depending on the demographics of your school (low SES, English as a Second Language).
These screenings are NOT standardized; you must use your clinical judgment to decide if a student passes or fails the screening. A passing score is set at 80% and above, but you may feel that a student requires further evaluation even if he/she passes the screening.
