These 20 task cards allow students to practice identifying facts and opinions while reviewing key concepts from the Virginia Studies curriculum (aligned with Reading SOL 4.6h and Virginia Studies VS.2-10). Use one activity to review language arts skills and Virginia Studies content at the same time!
Cards 1-10 each have one sentence. Cards 11-20 contain underlined sentences within a short passage.
This is a great activity for centers, early finishers, and morning work. Students can use these task cards independently, with a partner, or in a small group. They will record their answers on an answer sheet and check their work using an answer key. Note: there are 2 differentiated versions of the answer sheet. The first is a simple check-the-box list to show whether the statement is a fact or opinion; the second requires students to explain how they knew 2 of the cards had opinions, as well as to rewrite 2 facts as opinions.
You can print the cards in color or grayscale and laminate them for durability. Directions for preparation and use are included.
