This goes with the Powerpoint: Virtual Science Lab: Plant Classification Vascular and Nonvascular Plants
Here is a virtual lab report.
Here is a powerpoint slide show on classifying plants based on transporting tubes "vascular and nonvascular" plants. After the notes the slideshow will let our students know they are now about to begin the lab...
This lab provides:
Look fors - What to look for when classifying plants
Examples of vascular and nonvascular plants
And 12 slides to observe for the virtual classification portion
Example of Look Fors:
Vascular “look fors”:
• have vascular tissue – “transport tubes”
• most have tissue in their roots, stems, and leaves
• tubes carry water and food
• stand up tall
Non-Vascular “look fors” :
• don’t have vascular tissue – “transport tubes”
• absorb water directly through the surface of their cells
• live in moist areas
• much smaller than vascular plants
After the teacher presents the first 10 slides that include all that was mentioned above, students will then work independently or as a class and complete their lab report as they classify the plants on the slides (12 opportunities).
They will look at the slide that will have a picture of a certain type of plant and based on their "look fors" or characteristics they will fill out the report and classify each plant as either vascular or nonvascular.
