Virtual Lactase Enzyme Lab with differentiated questions for various levels

This online lab utilizes this lactase enzyme simulator- NO FLASH PLAYER NEEDED! It might look a little complicated at first, but I orient students to it well, and it’s not as scary as a gen bio student might think it is!

I have the answer key included, along with numerous suggestions for differentiating this lab--both up and down--for students of various learning levels/courses (AP or accelerated vs a regular/general class).

I recommend having students work in groups and share the Doc so they can all work together on it. This cuts down grading. I also have "stop signs" along the way, so you can check in with groups and make sure they're understanding things correctly before getting too far along in the lab, if they're confused.

Students are guided along to determine the enzyme’s rate with all the settings as-is, and then with changing the temperature. They are scaffolded through a CER to interpret their data. Finally, they design an experiment to see how the rate changes when they manipulate another variable of their choice. They wrap up the lab with a non-scaffolded CER about their findings.
