In this social studies unit called "Vision Quest", you will find twenty complete lessons, 69 pages, for teaching native cultures in North America and in Western Africa. These lessons engage students as active learners. Students will use pictures of artifacts, maps, folktales, and other primary and secondary sources to construct a comprehensive picture of these cultures. The two primary goals are: Describe the life of peoples living in North America before European exploration. Describe the lives of peoples living in western Africa prior to the 16th century.
All worksheets and student materials are included. The only things you need are Internet access, chart paper, construction paper, and general school supplies.
This unit could be followed by a study of three worlds colliding: Europe, African and North American cultures, the triangular trade, and/or the Columbian Exchange.
