A PPT presentation to introduce pupils to Belgium, a French speaking country.
One of the main difficulties facing Belgium is the three languages spoken within the country, the "drie talen" in the title means "three languages" in Dutch.
The first slide is a map of Belgium showing the linguistic borders.
Slides 4-9 are examples of bilingualism in action in Brussels, such as métro station signs, road signs. These all formed part of my uni dissertation.
Slide 10 is a map of the bilingual communes in Brussels, and the languages of the surrounding communes.
Slides 11-21 are photos taken around Belgium
Slide 22 has a few examples of where the vocab is different to that of standard French
Slide 23 shows a few things Belgian is famous for, and then slide 24 introduces pupils to a few famous Belgians.
Finally slide 25 gives the names of a few Belgian singers. I've not included links, but this could be extended by looking up the singers on Youtube.
All photos were taken by me.
Most of the slides contain notes with further information.
Please also see the separate file containing questions about the PPT.
